Guru Purnima is a festival dedicated to honour our parents, teachers, and the Almighty, who remove the darkness from our minds and enlighten us with knowledge. The first teacher in everyone’s life is the mother, who bears unbearable pain to bring us into the world. The second Guru in our life is the father, who struggles to overcome all the hindrances so that we can have a good life. The teacher is the next Guru in our life, who enlightens us with knowledge and removes the darkness of ignorance from our minds. God is the Guru for all of us and He resides in our hearts, ready to lead us through the path of life to knowledge and wisdom. He is the creator of the universe unifying the entire cosmos with His divinity. Let us remember a Sanskrit phrase in this context: “Matah Pitah Guru Daivam.”
By the grace of Amma’s blessings, this year, we celebrated Guru Purnima in Amrita International Vidyalayam. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the function couldn’t be organised in the school premises. So, we celebrated it virtually on 6th July 2020, when all the students, their parents, and the teachers came together online to participate in the celebration. The occasion was graced by the august presence of Swamiji, Br Viswamrita Chaitanya, who incidentally is the Director of the school.
The children offered prayers to their parents by doing a Padapuja, who are their first gurus, on this occasion. To the chanting of verses from Adishankara’s Matru Bhujangam and Valmiki’s Ramayana, children from classes Nursery to class 4 brought in a divine ambience with their puja. It was an amazing experience for all present on the occasion. The children also wished the teachers on this occasion. Everyone was thankful to Amma, as without Her blessings the programme wouldn’t have been a fruitful one. The programme ended with a positive note and with the hope that next year Guru Purnima would be celebrated on a larger scale, in the premises of Amrita International Vidyalayam.
